Welcome to Concise Bible Atlas!

HOW TO READ THIS BOOK: Just follow the numbers and you will be able to read this book in chronological order. But since there are so many pages, I have put some of them under subheadings that fall into the same categories. This information was first entered into an HTML website, so that is why I had to do so many pages. The pictures are also not the best since I knew absolutely nothing about drawing or Photoshop back then. I just did the best I could at getting them into the post. There are too many of them to redo each one. BUT the content is still great, and the pictures are good enough to give you an idea of the layout of the land. Some of them are good and some are mediocre. But I did my very best at the time. I know God will bless you if you take the time to read and understand these articles.

This is awesome information, though, and below is the story of how the Holy Spirit led me to start this site in 2003.

I got my first computer in 2002. A few months later, I felt the leading of the Holy Spirit to start a website. I had been on the computer enough to know what a website was, but had absolutely no idea how to build one. It was definitely not easy to learn, but the Holy Spirit somehow helped me to understand how to do it. It wasn’t the most awesome-looking site, but it had then, and still has now, some awesome information that can help you understand the geography of the land in Bible Times. Then when you read the Bible, you can see in your mind how everything would have looked and why some things were done the way they were.

An example is:

When reading I Samuel 17, one might wonder why the Israelite and Philistine armies were at a standoff, why the Philistines did not simply advance across the Ela Valley to engage the outnumbered and very underequipped Israelites.  Why did the two forces face each other across the valley for forty days?  But a survey of the Ela Valley reveals that it is divided by a deep ravine that the Philistine war chariots could not cross.  And, since the ridge on each side was easily defended, making it impossible for either army to attack on foot, it was not until the Philistine champion, Goliath, challenged the Israelite warriors to a contest that the deadlock was broken.  This clarifies things just because we know about the geographical conditions.

Studying the text without a basic knowledge of its physical setting is like watching a play without scenery.  You just don’t get the full impact of what it is saying to you.  This is especially applicable to studying the Bible, a setting where land features are so varied and yet so vital in determining the script and human reactions of what took place.

All the articles were taken from the book Concise Bible Atlas written by Carl Laney. He gave me full permission to use the contents of the book.

This marvelous journey with God has greater than I ever imagined. I have found that when I don’t know how to do something if I ask God to help me, HE ABSOLUTELY WILL DO IT! And He wants to give you things to do that you can never accomplish on your own. You must ask Him for help or you won’t be able to do it.

I didn’t know what to put on a website, so I asked the Holy Spirit to show me what to do. He led me to some books that were either in public domain or I got permission from the author to use them. Then I read what they had written and paraphrased it so that it would be easy to read and put it in short sections that would only take 5 – 10 minutes each to read.

I learned a huge amount from these books, and even today I remember most of what I learned during this time. I found that if God tells you to do something, He absolutely will give you every resource you need to do what He has asked. The last few years have been an awesome journey in faith and obedience, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. I did this site for 3-4 years before I got through most of the books and got them online. After that God led me to start other sites on the web. This one is still special, though, because I learned so much doing it, and I witnessed God show me how to do something that I would have never attempted on my own.

These articles can help you grow and mature in your Christian walk, and learn about the geography of the land of Israel and surrounding nations in Bible times. It really can give you much clarification as you read the Bible.
